Veena Das

Veena Das is an anthropologist who works on the topic of violence, I do not know much about it but I read some of her work and the conclusions she comes up with I think are very important when working on the issue of violence in social anthropology. She believes that social scientists have been afraid to work about the issue of violence because we do not want to make "science" out of people's emotions, not knowing how important it is for victims of violence that take them in mind, she sees the need for these people to speak up and be heard, even for us social scientists.
One of her books is entitled "Subjects of pain, dignity agents" Veena Das here covers a vast and complex path traversed by a constant concern for human dignity, even in the most difficult environments, violent and degraded... Her work transcends the local scene in India and is proposed as a fundamental rethinking of the corrosive effects of violence and the need to advance and enable the repair to restore areas of social coexistence.
